The Tyee’s exceptional writers have done it again with their latest piece titled “Sea Shepherd ‘Pirates’ to Turn Spotlight on BC Salmon Farms” which outlines our common cause.  To further your knowledge on this vital issue a clear and concise timeline is outline in Scott Renyard’s award winning documentary film The Pristine Coast.

With additional support from David Suzuki, Alexandra Morton and Pamela Anderson the issues are being discussed more openly and on main stream media. Consumers are becoming more conscious of their food choices in particular for one of the main food staples in Vancouver, sushi.

Pressure is mounting for large wholesalers to favour wild salmon over farmed salmon and several petitions have been making the rounds on the social media circuit and hopefully will gain momentum.  Where will this all go…? I don’t know however there has been a definite change occurring and as the culture of sustainability reaches maturity, more and more momentum will be gained. With the internet as a tool and further support from the new  federal government, let us be hopeful that the time for science based decision making is starting now.
