Juggernaut Pictures was founded in 1994 by filmmaker, author and scientist Scott Renyard. The focus of the company is to produce and distribute stories with environmental themes. As a leading Canadian film company, Juggernaut Pictures looks for subjects that are thought provoking, investigative, and can spur discussion about environmental challenges facing the planet.
The global population has now reached over 7.8 billion. We must be even more diligent in softening our impact on the world’s ecosystems. The time is now to investigate all of our activities and think hard about solutions. Juggernaut Pictures strives to act as a catalyst for decison-makers and consumers looking for solutions. We believe the first step in solving a problem is knowing about it.
Juggernaut Pictures not only produces and distributes original content, we also seek to remaster environmental films from the past. We feel it’s important to remember the environmental thoughts and ideas from earlier works because they express early environmental ideas. It is crucial to know our past mistakes so we can navigate the future. For example, we are proud to distribute films like the late Dick Harvey’s Living River and Indian Food Fishing on the Fraser River. Both films are terrific examples of early environmental films.
Juggernaut Pictures has produced more than a dozen films and is currently producing 3 feature documentaries, 1 series, several short documentaries and is about to launch it’s first eco-comedy feature, “Save the Planet Already!“
Our Work
Our films include the award winning and VIFF Impact film nominee, The Pristine Coast. This film exposes the extensive impacts of open net fish farming on wild fish populations. The heart wrenching Who Killed Miracle? about a baby killer whale’s mysterious death uncovers the truth about her mysterious death. The controversial film The Unofficial Trial of Alexandra Morton features a whistleblower’s testimony at the Canadian Federal Cohen Inquiry. And Trial of An Iconic Species reveals the key science and political issues surrounding the decline of the iconic Fraser River sockeye populations.
Juggernaut filmed, at its own expense, 118 days of the Cohen Commission of Inquiry: The Uncertain Future of the Fraser River Sockeye producing 395 episodes of testimony titled Exhibit 2148. This series adds an extra unofficial exhibit to the Inquiry’s 2147 official written exhibits. The camera position was next to the Commissioner throughout the hearings. So, Exhibit 2148 gives researchers an opportunity to see most of the Inquiry’s testimony through the eyes of Commissioner Bruce Cohen. Juggernaut pictures financed this series at its own expense and was seen our way to give back to the community. The decline of Fraser River sockeye populations continues and is now critical. We felt it was important for the public to be able to see and hear the testimony of this crucial Inquiry.
In July 2017, Juggernaut launched The Green Channel, (www.thegreenchannel.tv) which streams environmental content. The channel features environmental films that are acquired from around the world. The Green Channel streams to Canada, the US, Australia, and Europe. Subscribers now, through their participation, directly encourage and fund environmental filmmakers with their subscription fees. In other words, the environment can be helped by people watching The Green Channel.
